Daisy-Care April 2016 Review

Meadow got her first Daisy-Care box this week, and she's excited to share her review of what she received!

I signed her up on Mother's day, taking advantage of a 50% off deal for a six-month subscription, and we received her first box in just four days. We got the 6-Month Everyday Subscription for Toys and Treats for Meadow. Before we get to the products inside Meadow's first box, a couple pictures of an excited pit bull puppy during the box opening:

 And on to the goodies!

First up, we have the goDog Amphibianz Chameleon stuffy. (approx. $16.47). This guy is an appropriate size for Meadow. It's about 18 inches long. The toy features a squeaker and "Chew Guard Technology" to make it more durable. I can say that after several hours of playtime with Meadow, she hasn't torn it apart yet despite some pretty heavy chew time. She's been enjoying squeaking it, giving it the "death shake," and playing fetch with it. This seems to be a pretty high quality toy. Interestingly, the hang-tag on the toy notes that goDog has a 30 day replacement guarantee, in which goDog will offer a one-time replacement if the toy is destroyed within 30 days of purchase. Meadow definitely likes this toy, and it's a good size for her. If it does indeed hold up over the next few weeks, we will definitely look into other toys from this brand. The goDog Amphibianz is also available on Amazon.

Next up, we had a Jones Natural Chew Co. Premium Pig Ear., 1 ct. (approx $1.39). This is the item Meadow was most interested out of the box. She grabbed it, and headed to go chew it on her chew toy blanket. We took off the plastic wrapping for her, and she hunkered down on the couch and enjoyed it. She's had pig's ears in the past, and this one seemed crunchier than others she's had. She finished it in about 15 minutes. It didn't stain or have a strong odor. Jones dog treats are sourced and produced in the USA. They have tons of different types of meat and bone chews.  Definitely a brand of pig's ear we look for again. I was able to locate these in a 1 count package at Natural Dog Treat Shop ($1.39). There are also lots of Jones Natural products available on Amazon.

Now for the treats. Wow! I'm really impressed by the quality and quantity of treats in this box!

We have a package of DogChews NYC "Toy" Temptations - Chicken Parmesan, 8 oz. (approx. $10.99). These are tiny, bone-shaped treats that are a perfect size for training treats or stuffing into a Kong. They are only 3 calories per treat.

Meadow gives them four paws up! DogChews NYC has several different flavors of these treats available, and the company strongly supports animal rescue. Definitely a company I feel good about supporting. The ingredients are: organic oat flour, organic oats, non-fat organic chicken broth, aged Parmesan. Good and simple stuff. DogChews NYC Chicken Parmesan "Toy" Temptations can also be found on Amazon.

Next, we have a package of My Doggy Soft-Baked Cookies - Cheesy, 10 oz. (approx. $14.00).  These are bigger "cookies" as we call them around Meadow's house. They're slightly soft with a cute paw print imprint, and they definitely have a "cheesy" and "gingery" smell. Meadow thinks they are fantastic! They're high-value treats for her, and she carefully savors them as she eats them. She gets these "cookies" when she's being particularly well behaved. The ingredients are: Rye Flour, Molasses, Vegetable Oil, Cottage Cheese, Egg, and Ginger. Simple, wholesome stuff. I notice that My Doggy also makes Peanut Butter Soft-Baked cookies. You can be sure you will see a review of those sometime soon. Meadow LOVES all things peanut butter. My Doggy Soft-Baked "Cheesy" Cookies can also be found on Amazon.

We also received a package of Fruitables Sweet Potato & Pecan Flavor Dog Treats, 7 oz. (approx. $3.75). These cute little crunchy flower-shaped cookies pack a powerful smell of sweet potato, pecan, and cinnamon, so I imagine they're pretty tasty, too. Meadow loves them! They're a good size for training treats, they are only 9 calories each, and they're loaded with healthful ingredients, including: Sweet Potato, Organic Oatmeal, Pearled Barley, Oat Fiber, Canola Oil, Brown Sugar, Pecans, Cinnamon, Natural Flavor, Vanilla, Mixed Tocopherols. These treats are made in the USA, using USA-sourced ingredients. There are several different varieties of the Fruitables treats, and we will be looking at trying some of the other kinds. Fruitables Sweet Potato & Pecan Dog Treats are also available on Amazon.

And, last but not least, we received a package of Bubba Rose Biscuit Company, Cranberry Spice Treats, 5.9 oz. (approx. $12.99). First, I am a sucker for adorable packaging like this. They look like little truffle balls! These treats pack a pretty powerful smell of spice. They are quite hard and crunchy, but Meadow LOVES them! I gave her a handful of treats when we crated her today, including a couple of these treats, and she picked these to eat first. If you do nothing else, make sure you check out the Bubba Rose Biscuit Company website - they sell dog birthday cakes, cupcakes, cookies, and all sorts of other amazingly cute things to pamper your pooch. Meadow's first birthday is coming up at the end of the month, and I'm considering purchasing her a Bubba Rose birthday cake.

Overall impressions: This is a more expensive subscription box compared to others on the market, but with a 50% off coupon for a 6 month subscription, it seemed like it was worth a try. I was very impressed with the items in Meadow's first box. The toy was size-appropriate, and Meadow hasn't managed to wreck it yet after a couple hours worth of playtime. I was also pleased to see such high quality treats from smaller companies - several of which I haven't seen before. I calculated the total retail value of the items in the May 2016 Daisy-Care box to be approximately $59.59 -- well above the monthly cost of the box.
